HISTORY OF THE ASSOCIATION
Halima Oulami began the history of the association by finding ways to advocate for the interests of women and girls in the neighborhood. Between 2000 and 2003, she provided training to 70 girls who, after dropping out of school at the end of the preparatory level, enrolled in Youth Centers to pursue vocational training in sewing.
Her intervention consisted of providing additional training to these young girls, most of whom came from the neighborhood. The content of this training was based on legal and human rights initiation in order to enable them to better integrate into society.
In 2003, Oulami decided to frame this work in a professional manner by creating a first women's association in the Sidi Youssef Ben Ali district.
Together with four allies, three women and one man, she went to the local authorities to register the foundation of the association. There began another fight – that of convincing both the authorities and the population that it is this association that trains young associations in the region to defend women's human rights.
The AEDF of Marrakech is dedicated to improving the status of women and promoting the cause of women. It works at the local and regional levels to help disadvantaged women who are victims of violence or discrimination. To support them on the path to healing and independence, it provides them with psychological and legal assistance. In addition, in order to offer them a full range of services, the association also provides them with numerous activities and training courses designed to open the doors to a better future.
Achievement and success:
However, the group of activists overcame the obstacles and succeeded in creating El Amane. Then, the association began its work by holding awareness events and offering sessions on the law in the Youth House. From the beginning, there were many volunteers who supported the work of the association.
It was in 2004 that El Amane received its own headquarters and began to offer its first sewing training. In addition, literacy courses were held to improve the education of girls and women.
In 2005, the Listening Center opened its doors to help women in difficult situations and offer them psychological and legal support.
In the following years, the association managed to enrich its service step by step by offering more professional training and other activities such as caravans, advocacy and conferences for students. Awareness was offered at different levels such as the problem of violence, human rights and especially women's rights, and ways to combat diseases transmitted through sexual intercourse and AIDS.
In 2012, the Accommodation Center welcomed the first women in difficult situations who needed more than the support in the Listening Center, including a secure place.
